At least 13 people were killed on Thursday morning when a Tata Sumo car rammed into a stationary tanker on the Bangalore-Hyderabad National Highway 44.
The incident took place at around 7.15 am when the vehicle carrying 13 individuals rammed into the stationary tanker. 12 individuals died on the spot, while one suffered critical wounds, eventually succumbing to injuries, PTI reported.
According to senior police officials, the victims, hailing from the Anantapur district, were en route to Bengaluru when the collision took place. The exact cause of this accident remains under investigation, with initial findings pointing to the possibility of low visibility due to fog.
DL Nagesh, Superintendent of Police in Chikkaballapur, said, “12 people died on the spot in the accident, while one critically injured person, who was being treated at a nearby hospital, has succumbed to injuries. All of them were travelling in the vehicle from Anantapur to Bengaluru and on the way, the vehicle collided with a stationary tanker.”

A case of the accident has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police are engaged in the task of identifying and reaching out to the family members of the victims.
