Mass shootings have been on a rise in the US with more than 560 mass shootings across the United States this year. These shootings have happened in homes, schools and other public places.
Gun Violence Archive defines mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are injured or killed. The issue of gun violence is highly political as gun control advocates stand against people who are highly protective of their right to bear arms.
In 2017, Las Vegas witnessed the deadliest attack which claimed the lives of more than 50 people leaving 500 injured.
On an average, there have been two mass shootings every day as the number of incidents touch 600 for each of the last three years.
According to data cited by the BBC, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 48,830 people died from gun-related injuries in the year 2021 in the US, half of which were homicides.
Small Arms Survey, a Swiss-based research project estimated that around 390 million guns were in private hand circulation in the US in 2018.
The latest mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine in the US occurred on Wednesday after shots were fired at a restaurant and a bowling alley.
The Maine state police is on an active manhunt of the suspect whose picture has been released and it also posted on X for the public to stay alert and inside their homes with doors locked.

Ohio shooting: August 24, 2023
Police officers who were performing a welfare check found a family of five members which included three children dead at a home in Lake Township, Ohio.
Oklahoma City Shooting: August 16, 2023
According to Oklahoma City police three young children – ages nine, five and two – were shot to death by a 28-year-old man who also killed his estranged wife. The man later took his own life.
Georgia mass shooting: July 15, 2023
In the suburb south of Atlanta, a 40-year-old man fatally shot four people who were all in their 60s.
Shreveport, Louisiana Shooting: July 4, 2023
According to authorities, several men are suspected to have engaged in a shootout during a traditional Independence Day street gathering shortly before midnight, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals and injuries sustained by at least seven others.
Philadelphia shooting: July 3, 2023
A man, aged 40, is alleged to have indiscriminately fired an AR-15-style rifle, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and the injury of four others, including a 2-year-old child, in a neighborhood in southwest Philadelphia.
Green Pond mass killing: July 2, 2023
Officials reported that a 33-year-old man was accused of murder in the deaths of his sister-in-law and 11-year-old daughter. This incident occurred after law enforcement discovered six individuals deceased and one individual in critical condition at a residence while responding to reports of a house fire and stabbing.
Idhao mass shooting on Father’s Day: June 18, 2023
On Father’s Day, a 31-year-old man was charged with the fatal shooting of four members of a nearby family within their apartment.
Shooting at Tennessee house: Jun 15, 2023
Authorities indicated that a 48-year-old man is believed to have caused the deaths of five individuals, including himself, in a residence where law enforcement responded to a shooting and discovered the dwelling engulfed in flames.
Allen, texas mall shooting: May 6, 2023
A 33-year-old man, equipped with a collection of legally acquired firearms, fatally shot eight individuals and injured seven others at a shopping center in the Dallas area.
Lake Wales shooting: May 2, 2023

Charges of reckless murder were filed against six suspects in relation to a shooting at a Sweet 16 birthday celebration, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals and caused injuries to at least 32 others on April 15, 2023.
Louisville bank shooting: April 10, 2023
Authorities revealed that on April 10, 2023, a 25-year-old bank employee, armed with a rifle, initiated gunfire at his workplace. The incident resulted in the deaths of five individuals, with the attacker live streaming the attack on Instagram.
Murder-suicide in Miami Lakes home: Mar 10, 2023
Officials stated that police discovered three females and two males deceased from apparent gunshot wounds within a residence.
Mississippi shooting: Feb 17, 2023
Authorities reported that a 52-year-old man shot and killed six individuals, including his ex-wife and stepfather, at various locations within a small rural community.
